Transsexual Ferox

Hi everyone,

I’m Renee and I’ll guess I’ll start with the obvious…I’m a feminist and I’m trans.  I have a few hot-button issues which will always get me going.  I’m a volunteer domestic violence and sexual assault first-responder, as well as a survivor, so that’s a big one.  I was let go from my job earlier this year, so workplace discrimination and unemployment concerns are something I have a new and profound awareness of.  Mention restrooms and I’ll definitely have something to say.  I’m a bigger woman, and also really tall, so body image issues are a thing for me.  Also classism, which is an under-appreciated aspect of trans life, and on the tails of that, healthcare.  And all of the status - socially and economically - conferred by dating, coupling, and relationships.

But those (and many others) are my issues.  They were my gateway, but that’s not where the journey ends.  I believe in the equality of all people.  I believe everyone has a right to their own experience and identities, and that we should support those things.  I do not believe marginalized people should be solely responsible for fighting their own fights and that if we could all just find the common ground we share, no one would be able to deny us anything.

You can see more of my writing at transsexualferox.tumblr.com and (the now mostly defunct) transsexualferox.blogspot.com/.  Feel free to ask me anything, any time.

Take care and happy reading!
